What are 8-bit and 10-bit codes?

China Customs uses a commodity HS coding system divided into two categories. One is composed of eight digits, and the other is composed of 10 digits. The 8-bit coding equivalent uses HS coding, while the last two digits of the 10-bit code are two-digit codes that are extended according to the actual situation of imported and exported goods.

For example: commodity "other fresh, cold edible fish mash" 8-bit HS code is "03029900", according to the actual product under this item, further extend edgy code, such as: "other fresh, cold edible other fish mash", 10 digits code dismembered "0302990090", "other fresh, Cold edible endangered fish mash”, 10 bit code "0302990010".

Data classified by code
Data are extracted according to 8-bit or 10-bit HS codes and divided into two categories:
One is the statistical data of 8-bit codes, the query content is mainly this 8-bit code, in the past year, including all domestic shipping records. Field contents include date, HS code, commodity name (code description), quantity, total price, country of production and sale, customs port, enterprise name, place of receipt and shipment, etc.
The other type is the export data with 10-digit code, which is different from the 8-digit statistics. This kind of data shows the specific product name, specification and model, as well as the specific real unit price, and each shipment is a separate transaction record. Field contents include date, HS code, commodity name, brand, model, specification, amount, quantity, FOB unit price, country of production and sale, customs port, owner unit, customs declaration unit, place of collection and shipment, etc.

What's the difference between the two?
1.Product name: 8-digit code is classified according to the international commodity code of the chapter note category, and the statistical data in the commodity name is the code description of the product, not the specific product name and its model.

The 10-bit code is based on the import and export of goods specifications model, brand, etc. to further refine the classification of the code. Export data shows the name of the goods for the real customs declaration to fill in the product name, and with the product specification model.

2.Commodity unit price: In 8 statistics, the unit price is based on the total weight and total amount of the operation, to be accurate, which should be "the average price of goods." The transaction price terms do not show whether it is FOB or CIF, and the currency of the transaction is usually converted into US Dollars (USD).

And 10 export data, unit price for the customs declaration to fill in the exact unit price, the document contains the transaction method, price terms, customs units, cargo owners and other information. And the amount is followed by the declared currency, e.g. USD, EUR, JPY, etc.

3.Data volume: the 8-digit statistical data is a summary of the transaction records of the same type of goods of the same company sold in the same region, including the number, weight, total price, etc. Data coverage is not complete, and the amount of data will be relatively small. And the 10 customs data is a detailed record of each transaction record, data volume.
